Nathan Overend

The Overend family of Baildon were, like most people in that area at that time, hand-loom weavers, tailors, and dealers in cloth. The weaving would have been done at home with help from the women and children of the family, giving the children an informal training.

Nathan’s father Timothy was a clothier, holding land at Skyrack in 1753 of a slightly below average value. Nathan himself was a worsted weaver and he was followed into that trade by his son James.
